Lanark and the new Alabama Nature Center contain 350 acres of striking forests, fields, streams, wetlands and ponds that are traversed by five miles of boardwalks and trails in three regions: Still Creek Run, Turkey Ridge, and Hilltop Pass.
In order to provide quality outdoor education experiences, drive-up visitors wishing to walk the trails are not allowed, except during scheduled times when the Center is open to the general public.

This historic site was the home of Jefferson Davis, Confederate President, and his family during the first year of the Civil War until May 29, 1861. The site sits across the street from the present day state capitol, the historic location of his inauguration on February 18, 1861, where visitors will find a bronze star commemorating the inaugural moment. The house was built in 1832-1835 and has been fully restored to its original grandeur after many years of neglect and was given to the State of Alabama from the White House Association in 1921. |

Built in 1898, Union station is a magnificent Romanesque Revival structure that originally served Montgomery as a train station and has been beautifully restored thanks to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the City of Montgomery. It now serves as the Montgomery Area Visitors Center, where you'll find the Montgomery Convention & Visitors Bureau, Montgomery's official gift shop "The Depot" and Lek's Taste of Thailand restaurant.
Union Station has been a popular spot in the city and is even more popular now with the recent development of Montgomery's riverfront.
It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1973. In it's hayday, more than 44 trains would stop at the station each day.
The adjacent "Train Shed" is one of the few surviving structures of its type from the 1800's. |

Getting There:
The trailhead can be reached from State Highway 50 via Overlook Drive.
From the East (Walnut Hill) go west on Highway 50 and turn right on Overlook Drive, which is marked by a Scenic Overlook sign. The trailhead parking lot is 3.3 miles on the right.
From the West (Red Hill) go east on Highway 50 and turn left onto Overlook Drive at the Martin Dam sign .3 mile past the Tallapoosa River. The trailhead parking lot is 1.5 miles on the left. (Part of Overlook Drive in this area is gravel.)
